New York State Medical Professionals

In New York State, this program was first introduced as the Child Abuse Medical Provider (CHAMP) Program and was funded through a grant from the New York State Department of Health.  In addition, a “Network” of providers, both novice and expert, has been established.  This allows New York providers to continue learning through case conferences and peer review

New York participants also have the opportunity to participate in an “observorship” with an assigned mentor who is experienced in performing child sexual abuse exams.

Mentor sites

Several mentor sites have been designated across New York State.  These include locations at:

                     Upstate Medical University (Syracuse)

                     Seton Pediatrics (Troy)

                     Columbia Presbyterian Hospital (Manhattan)

                     Bellevue Hospital (Manhattan)

Children’s Hospital  / Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital (Buffalo)

                     Strong Memorial Hospital (Rochester)

                     Montefiore Medical Protection Center (Bronx)

Nassau County Medical Center (Long Island)

                     Brooklyn HSC

CHAMP applicants must be physicians, physician assistants, or nurse practitioners who have successfully completed the workbook and post-test.
